I have just had a flash from the past. TV on in the background, suddenly I hear a jingle I haven't heard for years.Aquafresh seem to be running a really old advert, which I am sure was first aired in about 1985. It looks really dated now. It seems odd to me why a company would run an advert which just looks completely out of place in 2006. I know adverts are expensive to make, but to just re run one after a couple of decades looks really cheap.
However I suppose it made me notice it, so perhaps it's a great marketing ploy!

I spent the bank holiday weekend at the Leeds Festival. Got to see some great performances from Soulwax, Franz Ferdinand, Artic Monkeys, and Muse to name just a few. A few pictures have been added to the galleries. I had a good festival, but yet again it was let down by (just a few) of their jobs worth or lazy staff, but don't get me started on that.
Last night I drove to Rotherham to catch up with The Tangent. It was nice to see everyone again. I took the camera down, and unlike the Leeds Festival, I managed to take a few nice shots (well I thought so).
I popped out at one point to buy fish and chips. I don't know if this is a Rotherham thing, but as well as the usual sausages and fish cakes the chippy also served battered beef burgers, and battered rings of kabab meat! That's one hell a of a greasy snack!

I really like the Chris Moyles Show on a morning. Someone has made a little animation of the recent 'little' conversations the team has been having. I thought it was really funny... youtube link
Secondly, much good luck to Michael who is leaving work to cycle round the world (well he might). No other could fill your office DJ boots in quite the same way.

Various utility companies I buy services from are trying to get me to do 'paperless' billing. Sign up on our website they say, and get your bills there. Your gas / leccy / phone company is probably giving you the same opportunity. The main incentive, is to help the environment. However this must also save them a bit of money (postage, paper and admin), but do they offer me a small discount? No. Just the cost of the stamp (or frank) would do. Instead they like to use this money to pay the electricity bill for their web and account servers (still saving the environment?).However, the companies aren't so environmentally friendly as to stop sending me all kinds of leaflets with my bill. Cover your boiler for unexpected break downs, upgrade your call package for free evening and weekend calls. The list goes on.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for saving the environment. My electricity comes from wind power (well my electricity company promise to replace every kWh I use, with one generated by renewable energy sources), I re-cycle cans, bottles, paper and plastics (however this takes me a car journey to the local recycling centre as my local council wont provide a collection service in my town despite doing it everywhere else) I try to do my bit.
Is it just me being cynical, or is this new initiative a little backwards?

Last night top of the pops finished on the BBC after the decision was made to axe the aging institution. I think it's a sad thing, however I have to admit, I rarely watched it anymore. I think thats probably because you had to guess at what time (and sometime channel) it was going to be on, in its later years).I was however quite pleased with the final show, especially bringing on some of the past hosts of the show, such as Jimmy Saville and Tony Blackburn. The techy part of me really liked the fact that each presenter used a microphone of their period.
Something that may well have been missed by many. It was just a shame that the final number one, was a crappy tune by Shakira and that silly Wyclef fella. However, I have heard that in fact TOTP will be back on our screens at Christmas. So perhaps its not the last we have seen of it. So just you remember where you heard that little piece of information (unless it turns out to be false or you heard it else where).

Happy Birthday goes to my sister, Beth. Hope you have a good day, and the book I got you was the right one!

Generally disc jockeys on local radio irritate me. They generally over pronounce, in that DJ way. Its Cheesey. Most of them change there name to be a pair of first names too... John Adams, Rick Stuart or Nick Stevens. Ever noticed that?I have some tomtom gps software on my phone, with a little bluetooth gps device. Its a cheap way of getting a gps in your car, if you have a compatable phone. I found some alternative voices, instead of the boring american man or lady. Some of these are the voices of some local DJ's here in the Leeds / Sheffield area.
These make me laugh, the comedy is terrible but the dj voices are classic. You can download the voices if you have a tomtom, or just listen to a sample if you dont. My favourite for cheese is 'Big John', but the one I am using at the mo on my phone is Justin Moorhouse, he was 'Young Kenny' in 'Phoenix Nights' and I have seen him live supporting Dave Spikey.
In other news. Have you heard the story about the geordie lady who has recently recovered from a stroke, but found that she has now developed a Jamaican accent? BBC News reports.

Is it just me or do less and less people on the road today wear their seat belts? I really can't see why people don't wear them to be honest, but I am sure its becoming more wide spread. For me, its an automatic thing, I jump in the car, and the belt goes on. If someone else gets in my car, I don't care if its their own responsibility, my car isn’t moving unless their belt is on too.A couple of days ago, I was sat at some temporary traffic lights, set up to stop people driving into yet another hole which the water board in my area has dug. Whilst sitting there, eight cars past me. Of those eight drivers, six were not wearing their seat belts, and one was also on his mobile.
Walking to the shop today, for a sandwich, I watched in amazement as a police car pulled up to some lights. The female police officer who was driving, clearly wasn't wearing her seat belt. And quite frankly, it didn't look like she was about to jump out and capture a criminal. Is it any wonder civilians are not bothering, if police officers are blatantly flouting the law?
I really can't see any possible reason to not wear one. I understand there are drivers who are exempt. Delivery drivers for example. However, as I understand the law, its only for drivers that are literally starting and stopping door to door (like the postie), rather than delivery drivers driving across town to the next drop off. But why don't bus drivers wear them, or most long distance lorry drivers?
Its laws like this that aren’t being enforced which leads to the increase in road death statistics. Belting up massively reduces the risk of serious injury. So why are there so many stupid people who refuse?
It's the fact that if I hit a driver not wearing a seat belt, and they did die. How would I feel? I'd like to think that I would blame it on their own stupid fault. But to be honest, I'm not sure I would.
